Bodega Pirineos, Principio Moristel, 2019

Somontano DO, Spain

A bangin’ natural red made from a rare grape varietal which is native to the northern Spanish region of Aragón. There are only a handful of wines made fully from Moristel and this one is also a limited production. This red is full of juicy fruit characteristics alongside hints of sweet spices and vegetal undertones. Superb texture and naturally high acidity round out this wildly delicious and easy-drinking offering. Glug glug y’all…
The more you know: Years ago, Barbadillo, the famed sherry producer, took an interest in the Somontano wine-producing region of Spain. The head oenologist worked to find and preserve local varietals and to bring wine-making pedigree back to a region that had fallen away from recognition. The results in such a short time are exceptional. Moristel has been saved from extinction and viticulture in the region is once again booming thanks to these efforts.
Food pairings: delicious as an aperitif with a slight chill, grilled hot dogs (all beef or veggie, dealer's choice), spicy Spanish chorizo, chicken stew braised in red wine
