Château Plantey de LieuJean, Haut-Médoc, 2019

Haut-Médoc AOC
Bordeaux, France

Arguably the most prestigious wine region in France, the Haut-Médoc is iconic and home to some of the titans of the winemaking world. And while there is a massive gulf in quality of terroir between the top estates in the area and their more humble counterparts, the level overall is simply unrivalled. Gems abound in this region with estates you've never heard of producing delicious, top value bottles. This chateau is one of those instances where quality and style far surpass expectations and deliver something people in the industry absolutely love - high QPR or quality to price ratio.

A classic Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Merlot (30%), Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot (5% each) with a light oak treatment. The aromatics are strong and inviting with fresh dark cherries, tobacco, violets and subtle mineral characteristic, owing to the sandy gravelly soil where these vines grow. This wine can be described as medium-plus body or, in other words, almost full bodied but not quite. Gorgeous tannins with velvety silkiness and a lovely deft touch of acidity keep things feeling fresh and finessed. The long finish is the final piece of this delicious puzzle.

Dense, rich, wonderful value. Don't wait on this one!

Food pairings: hearty stews, grilled meats, roasted lamb, burgers, blue cheeses
