Rosso Toscano IGT

La Querce Seconda is the last winery in the north of the Chianti Classico, marking the northern boundary of the municipality of San Casciano. A small business run by Niccolò Bernabei and his Swedish-born wife Linda Sandkvist, the property includes 7 hectares, 3.6 of which are dedicated to the production of Chianti Classico and another small production that falls under the Chianti Colli Fiorentini denomination.

For years Niccolò has dedicated himself to painstaking work in the vineyard, recovering vineyards dating back to 1975. In addition to wine, the winery is an agritourism destination that welcomes tourists. In 1998, before taking over the reins of the family business, which had been left to Niccolò by his mother Monica Edlund, one of the first registered direct growers in Tuscany, the decision was made to take on another rented business that later joined the main farm, becoming a producer of extra virgin olive oil.

A pure Sangiovese thriller with all the hallmarks of a classic Tuscan IGT wine mirrored by modern and refined winemaking. There's classic Tuscan intensity counterbalanced by a low-intervention freshness. Sangiovese, a naturally high acid grape, is zippy here with crunchy red cherry, raspberry, ripe plum and a hint of smoke. Winemaking is done in stainless steel but you don't get the impression that the wine is lacking in depth. It's multidimensional and intriguing but wildly delicious and easy-drinking at the same time. Dynamite stuff from this crew!
