Johannes Zillinger believes being organic is not a trend but a lifestyle, one that this family has been living for over 35 years. His father Hans turned the family’s estate, founded in the seventeenth century as part of a mixed agriculture farm, to organic in 1983. Located in the community of Velm-Gotzendorf in the wine region of Weinviertel (“wine quarter”), Niederosterreich, Hans is considered to be one of Austria’s pioneers of organic wine. He likes to push boundaries with his winemaking style while also paying homage to single vineyard sites and indigenous varieties that make Austrian wine unique. He even grows his own herbs for tea tinctures to use as treatments in his vineyards.

2019 Velue Gruner Veltliner 
Weinviertel, Niederösterreich, Austria

A selection of Johannes Gruner Veltliner from all his vineyards ranging from 5-50 years old. 95% is fermented and matured in stainless steel, 5% is a skin contact maceration in amphora. The wine spends six months on its lees with Battonage. Crisp and savoury; tart apples and green herbs. Dangerous drinking fun!

NV Revolution White Solera (bottled 2020) 
Weinviertel, Niederösterreich, Austria

50% Chardonnay 25% Riesling 25% Scheurebe sourced from 20-40 year old vines. 2017 2018 Scheurebe for elegance, fruit and freshness. 2019 Chardonnay with a short fermentation on its skins for structure and body. 2013-2019 Riesling in solera system for character and complexity. Apricots, russet apples, crushed rocks wrapped up with smoke and terra cotta.

NV Revolution Pink Solera (bottled 2020) 
Weinviertel, Niederösterreich, Austria

50% Rosler 40% Syrah 10% St. Laurent sourced from 20-110 year old vineyards. 2019 Rosler whole cluster for elegance and freshness. 2018-2019 Syrah for minerality and body. 2016-2018 St. Laurent in solera system for character and complexity. Fractional blending develops mega layers and complexity. Sour cherries, pomegranates and a touch of sage. Flinty finish.
