Chris Santini makes wine with his brothers in the small Burgundian village of Auxey-Duresses, a town with a population of 300, in a hundred year old cuverie that has never seen commercial enzymes or yeasts. He coined his winery ‘The Auxey-Collective’ as his cuverie is home to a collection of young winemakers producing their wine there under the same curved roof as the Santini brothers. His focus is on producing “vins de soif” – wine made to quench your thirst and be consumed with fervour. The fruit is sourced from interesting and unique terroirs that are off the beaten track in Burgundy, Beaujolais and vinous French country. All the wines are made in extremely small quantities. These are a rare find.

2019 Champlitte (Gamay, Chardonnay)
Auxey-Duresses, Burgundy, France

 It’s a quarter chardonnay and three quarters gamay where the gamay berries are fermented whole with the pressed chardonnay juice surrounding those berries. Fun times in Burgundy. A heavy rose vibe here with firm skeleton of tannin and acidity, so bright, tense, and refreshing. It’s super fragrant, spicy, shows cherry and berry fruitiness.  

2019 Beaujolais Superieur (Gamay)

This fruit comes from much vaunted cult Burgundy producer Pacalet vines. Light and fine, faintly juicy but more about this sleek, slinky feel and kirsch-meets-amaro-like characters. Lithe and pretty wine, so easy to drink. Wonderful sense of vitality and energy. Thirst-quencher galore.

Here is the star grape of the region, Pinot Noir, it all its unfined and unadulterated glory. Earthy, herbal, and bursting with crunchy cherries and fresh currants. Rustic and glorious.
