2021 Rosewood Winery Litre of Gris 1L
Beamsville, Niagara

100% Pinot Gris from the aces at Rosewood in a too-cool-for-school 1L format, this will purify your soul like the waters of Lake Minnetonka. 60% aged in stainless steel, 40% aged in neutral French oak for 4 months prior to transferring the full amount into stainless steel where it's aged for an additional 4 months before bottling. Once you've committed that math to memory, it will immediately be erased by the waves of wild peach, orange zest, jasmine tinged with a light spritzing of vanilla essence, and woody but sweet aromatics - we're thinking sandalwood but cedar makes sense too. A joyous wine with joie de vivre and we're grateful that they bottled this into a larger format so we can avoid that "oh no, it ended too soon!" feeling.

2018 Rosewood Winery Neptune
Niagara, Ontario

2018 Neptune, aptly named after the god of the sea. Why Neptune? After the juice spends its light in terracotta pots for 18 months a rich and distinct saline character emerges. 100% Riesling harvested from the Renaceau Vineyard (winery home block). After pressing, the juice was transferred to 60% neutral French oak puncheons + 40% unlined clay amphora. Each portion was fermented using non-selected wild yeast, then matured on lees for 18 months in these vessels. Full malo. Bottled without fining or filtration. Tastes like an ocean sea breeze wrapped inside the arms of a juicy lemon.

2021 The Hermit Ram Salty White
North Canterbury, New Zealand

Theo's ode to the New Zealand coastline near Kaikōura, where they are, and an attempt to marry both the saline and floral elements of their land. The winemaking techniques used on the Sauvignon Blanc/Muller-Thurgau blend are kinda wild here - part of the blend is fermented whole bunch and aged in stainless steel, part is directly pressed then fermented and aged in amphora and two neutral barrels are filled and left untopped to develop a flor. Everything is then blended before getting bottled unfined and unfiltered. So, yeah...

Scents of green herb, light floral notes (that's from the Muller-Thurgau), jasmine, lemon curd, tropical fruit and a lot of saline character. Juicy on the palate with tingly, saline acidity and a gentle, savoury nuttiness too (that's from the flor development). This is a wild ride of a wine and another one of the aces up Theo's sleeves. Lip-smacking good times!
