2021 Domaine de la Mariniere Vielles Vignes Chinon
Loire, France
Sourced from the older plots of Cabernet Franc the family planted in the 1980s, this is a wonderful example of traditional Chinon meeting modern winemaking technique. The depth and purity of the fruit are terrific, with marked tannins and lively acidity adding to the length in the mouth. This is juicy, easy to drink and delivers just the right amount of pleasing florality and minerality to lift the fruit.
2022 Les Terres d'Ocre Instan T Rouge
Loire, France
A blend of 70% Gamay and 30% Pinot that is easy-drinking, wonderfully fruity and possessed of great finesse. The nose is full of bushy currants and raspberry with slightly peppery and spicy hints. The palate is soft, pleasing and full of fruit. There's length and texture in spades with a lightning bolt of acidity waiting to strike the palate at an Instan-T.
2022 Domaine de la Marinière La Peau de L'Ours
Chinon, France
This is one of the Desbourdes family's more "entry-level" Cabernet Francs but it's kinda misleading to understate it to that extent. Thanks to carbonic winemaking, this is exploding with an array of red fruits like a Moroccan fruit market. This is vivid and fun, ranging all that fruit over to a clean finish with green pepper (capsicum for you diploma-getters), flint and white peppercorn. Fresh and fruity, modern and easy-drinking. A (very) light chill will enhance the vibes.
