2019 Tenuta di Carleone Il Randagio
Toscana IGT, Italy

Randagio is a word for stray, paying homage to a smaller one-eyed version of Sean¬†‚ÄúIl Guercio‚ÄĚ O‚ÄôCallaghan in the form of a little guercino seen on this label. This is the same winemaking as Carleone‚Äôs other bottle, ‚ÄúIl Guercio,‚ÄĚ but the blend gets a¬†heavy dose of Cabernet Franc and Merlot with a small amount of Sangiovese.
There are whole bunches in this wine and cement tanks used; no barrels here. Spiced nose, wild blackberries, complex layers, perfectly polished tannins and a fresh, very invigorating acid wire. Fresh, fruity and harmonious.
One of our absolute faves of 2021! So, so delicious.

2020 Altocedro The Phoenician Malbec
Mendoza, Argentina

The Phoenician is a blend of  80% Malbec, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Syrah. Winemaking takes place in concrete tanks with 30% of the wine aged in French oak barrels for 10 months. It has a fresh nose with moderate spices over a core of blackberries. The palate is silky, with blueberry, mineral, shaved chocolate and light espresso character. Full body, integrated tannins and a long finish. Amazing pairing for a juicy T-Bone served with roasted potatoes and red-wine sauce or a roasted shoulder of lamb served with rich, creamy potatoes au gratin.

2019 Bodega Pirineos 3404 Red Blend
Somontano DO, Spain

The fruit of Bodega Pirineos‚Äô 3404 comes from hard work and respect for the traditional Moristel and Garnacha varieties, which have been combined with magnificent Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. Named after Pico A√Īeto, a peak that rises to a dizzying altitude of 3,404 meters, soaring over the Somontano appellation. A lifted fresh and fruity red wine that allows for the full expression of Somontano to come through. Intense aroma with sweet notes of ripe red fruits, strawberries,¬†wild flowers, chocolate, caramel, vanilla and red berries¬†with a dash of spice. Velvety texture and fresh, with soft tannins on the palate.¬†
Food pairings: burgers, pizza, red sauce pastas, rotisserie chicken with brown sauce (you know which one!)
