2020 Novaripa Agronika Montepulciano
Novaripa uses their extensive co-op of 200+ organic and sustainable grape growers to assemble this delicious offering where Montepulciano is the star of the show. A red grape variety grown widely in central Italy, the most famous and highly regarded examples come from Abruzzo, and, more specifically, Chieti. Produced without any oak influence, hand-harvested Montepulciano undergoes a long and slow fermentation in stainless steel before spending a full year resting ahead of bottling. This winemaking technique preserves the primary fruit flavours and freshness of the wine, lending to some extra juicy aromatics of blackberry, cherry and liquorice. The palate is ripe and round with black plum, blackberry and red currant notes hitting alongside some subtle tannins.
NV La Querce Seconda Barabba
A pure Sangiovese thriller with all the hallmarks of a classic Tuscan IGT wine mirrored by modern and refined winemaking. There's classic Tuscan intensity counterbalanced by a low-intervention freshness. Sangiovese, a naturally high acid grape, is zippy here with crunchy red cherry, raspberry, ripe plum and a hint of smoke. Winemaking is done in stainless steel but you don't get the impression that the wine is lacking in depth. It's multidimensional and intriguing but wildly delicious and easy-drinking at the same time. Dynamite stuff from this maverick crew at the northern edge of Chianti!
2020 Salcheto Rosso di Montepulciano
A Sangiovese blend from the heart of Italy's winemaking powerhouse, Tuscany. Biodynamic and organic farming are the heart of Salcheto's operations including impressive commitments to carbon offsetting, waste reduction and an environment-first pledge throughout their winemaking operations. Even better though, this is absolutely delicious with an enticing nose of red fruits, purple flowers and a tinge of herbaceousness. Incredibly fresh with that hallmark Sangiovese acidity that keeps you refilling your glass and wondering how you drank the bottle so damn quickly!
