2020 Fabien Brutout Le Facteur Su'l'velo
Loire, France
Vouvray AOC

A funny name inspired by a famous French expression "to put the postman back on the bike" meaning "to get back to drinking the day after a drunken evening". So yeah, this is totally a vibe. A discreet nose with white fruits roasted in butter, a hint of pineapple and a vegetal notion of sage, which makes you do a classic double take. Chamomile, granny smith apple, honey, mineral notes and a light white florality married to a generous mouthfeel that washes through with a pitch-perfect amount of acidity.

2021 João Tavares de Pina Rufia Branco
Dão DOC

The Rufia Branco encompasses Encruzado, Cerceal, Malvasia, Bical and Arinto, aged for 8 months on the skins. Slightly tannic with a surprising note of celery salt on the nose, high acidity, refreshing, lots of apples and Asian pear aromatics too. There's a little apricot and some pleasant herbaceous aromas too. Complex but very inviting, a winning combination and a cool expression of what natural wines from Portugal are capable of. Perfect to drink with raw fish preparations, risotto with seafood, warm fish appetizers and light veggie pastas. We'd say sushi is kind of a slam dunk pairing here.

2019 Rosewood Winery There Be Dragons
Beamsville, Niagara, Ontario

100% Sauvignon Blanc. Fermented using non-selected ambient yeast and aged for 18-months on its natural lees in neutral French oak puncheons. Bottled without fining or filtration. What a wild ride this is! There's some Sauterne-ish qualities here with honeyed, waxy elements playing over some slightly flowery, citrusy qualities. Then it goes 180 with a salty, tangy finish blending in pleasing herbaceousness (classic Savvy B, as some might say) and a heavy dose of fresh fruits and zippy cool climate acidity. This can reward with lengthy aging and can cellar up to 20+ years.
