2020 Maenad Wine Co. Piquette of Sauvignon Blanc
Niagara

Maenads, the female followers of Dionysus were known for their “wild” behaviour, defying the expected role of women. This creation follows their muse: crafty, non-conformist, interesting and wildly delicious.
Not actually a wine, this beverage is made by adding water and a small amount of sugar to freshly pressed Sauvignon Blanc grape skins. Grape skins are full of aroma and flavour compounds, and this Piquette truly shows it. From female winemaker Yvonne Irvine, this Piquette was fermented with wild yeasts and bottled just as fermentation was ending to create a light spritz. A zesty nose full of grapefruit and orange with fresh herbal notes. At only 5.5%, this Piquette is extremely crushable, and drinks very much like a refreshing, crafty beer.
Unfiltered and bottled with lees. No Sulphites added.

2021 Rosewood Winery Flora Rosé
Beamsville, Niagara

56% Gamay Noir, 36% Cab Franc and 8% Pinot Noir. Fermented using wild yeast. Aged for 5 months in stainless steel. Bottled without fining or filtration. Juicy and fresh. Juicy red berries lead the way here with a bit of funk on the follow-through. Juicy and vibrant with loads of aromatics like ripe strawberries, rose petal and sweet candies balanced out by slightly salty and bitter elements on the finish. This is a warm weather crusher for the soul.

2020 Johannes Zillinger JZ Velue Zweigelt
Weinviertel, Niederösterreich, Austria

Zillinger's JZ Velue line of wines leans a little bit away from the hardcore definition of natural and more into that low-intervention style. Maybe you'd call it a lighter, easier-drinking line that's right on the money for that any day of the week glass. Zweigelt grapes are gently pressed, naturally fermented in big open vats and matured for 9 months in old oak barrels on the lees.
This is serving us all the fresh cherry, pomegranate and juicy raspberry that we can possibly handle. Fruity, mild, low in tannins, bright acidity and perfect length. This is one of those rare reds that goes well with fish and shellfish like Greek baked fish with tomatoes and onions; lamb crusted with dried porcini and herbs; spicy Asian noodles; Huli Huli chicken; or a tuna Poke bowl.
