Burgundian micro-domaine and estate Vin Noé is the project of young Californian winemaker Jonathan Purcell. After graduating from his studies in Beaune, Jonathan built an impressive resume working for many years under the legendary Philippe Pacalet. Jonathan established Vin Noé in 2016, based out of a 100-year-old cuverie in Auxey-Duresses. Wines are produced using purchased grapes from the Mâcon, Beaujolais, and more recently from leased sites in Puligny-Montrachet and Saint Aubin. Jonathan takes a hands-off approach in the cellar, using wild yeast fermentations, zero sulphur additions and gently transferring wines with gravity without the use of a pump. He has managed to lease vineyards in St Aubin and Puligny Montrachet. These agreements are incredibly hard to come by these days however due to his nature, he’s formed a relationship with a now retired vigneron. He is making these domaine wines, in a clean but no sulphur style. The reds are voluminous yet fresh and the whites very textural. A minute volume of these wines are available.

2019 Face to Face (Viognier)
Auxey-Duresses, Burgundy, France

Skin fermented, deeply orange wine of viognier from Beaujolais! So chewy, so spicy, strong ginger and preserved lemon going on with lots of jasmine and chamomile too. Wow! Strong pucker to texture, an almost tonic-like feel too. Zesty, an almost chilli powder spice here too. Crazy town but oh so delicious and plenty of structure and texture to go.

2019 Julienas 'Julie&NAS' (Gamay)
Auxey-Duresses, Burgundy, France

100% whole bunch Gamay, semi-carbonic and aged in old barrels. A lot of manual work with a tub and a wood press. Nothing added, nothing taken away. Pretty and romantic. Full of wild berries and soft herbs, bursting with minerality. Fresh AF. Crushable factor = 10.

2019 Bourgogne Rouge ‘Guele d’Amour’ (Pinot Noir)
Auxey-Duresses, Burgundy, France

From two parcels of vines, each about 40 years-old, one on granitic soil, the other red-clay over limestone, both of which are farmed organically. High-toned ocean spray cranberry vibes, black raspberries, leather and forest floor. An unconventional Burgundy. No fining, no filtration, no sulfur, no makeup. Pure yum!
