2021 Bodegas Pirineos 3404 Red Blend
Somontano DO, Spain
The fruit of Bodega Pirineos’ 3404 comes from hard work and respect for the traditional Moristel and Garnacha varieties, which have been combined with magnificent Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. Named after Pico Aneto, a peak that rises to a dizzying altitude of 3,404 meters, soaring over the Somontano appellation. A lifted fresh and fruity red wine that allows for the full expression of Somontano to come through. Intense aroma with sweet notes of ripe red fruits, strawberries, wild flowers, chocolate, caramel, vanilla and red berries with a dash of spice. Velvety texture and fresh, with soft tannins on the palate.
Food pairings: burgers, pizza, red sauce pastas, rotisserie chicken with brown sauce
2020 Chateau Laballe Terres Basses
Côtes de Gascogne, France
The Laballe Estate is located on a rare terroir: the tawny sands, famous for the production of Armagnac. The vines cover 17 hectares on clay and light soils. The history of the estate began in 1820 when the family acquired the château. The wine is made from three grapes—Colombard, Ugni Blanc (a.k.a. Trebbiano Toscano), and Gros Manseng. Imagine the ripest, juiciest yellow grapefruit or pomelo that you can. The freshest piece of fruit with no bitter or pithy elements. If this sounds appealing to you, then buy this bottle immediately! For pairings, bivalves or shellfish like clams, scallops, and shrimp but also the perfect first glass to get your palate salivating.
2021 Folk Machine Pinot Noir
Central Coast California, USA
One of many Kenny Likitprakong productions, including Hobo, Banyan, Camp, Edith & Ida and Ghostwriter. Folk Machine was created in 2005 almost strictly for the production of Pinot Noir but has since expanded to include all esoteric bottlings like Charbono, Carignan and other dreamy gems. The 2021 Central Coast Pinot Noir is a blend of Mission Ranch (Arroyo Seco) and Cedar Lane (Arroyo Seco) vineyards. The wine was aged in 2-6 year old French oak Burgundy barrels. This Pinot was very gently extracted during fermentation and pressed early to further minimize extraction leading to a quite pretty and standout vintage. The wine is elegant and lean but quintessentially California Pinot Noir with ethereal fruit and spice. Fun, easy-drinking and unpretentious - all the hallmarks of KL's productions. Pair with roast turkey, BBQ ribs, mushrooms, cheeses, beet salad, lamb chops, coq au vin...really the possibilities are endless.
So enjoyable and fun
