Sopron, Hungary
Lake Neusiedl, Burgenland

At the southwestern tip of Lake Neusiedl on a gentle, eastward-facing slope sit the gorgeous vineyard holdings of Franz Weninger. The gneiss and mica schist, which are present all the way to the surface, make the soil porous and thus dry and warm.

Coming from 20+ year old vines grown on slate, this Fehérburgundi (more commonly known as Pinot Blanc) is hand-harvested, fermented in big wooden barrels and then aged for 11 months on fine lees. A very small production of 10,200 bottles was produced of this gorgeous, playful and elegant white. Light florality, zesty citrus and grassiness are at the forefront of the nose and the palate. There's mineral tension, racy acidity and a silky texture to the body of the wine, owing to the fine lees aging component. Very fine and elegant yet it excites the palate with its acidity and zestiness.

Great with dishes like frittatas, roasted scallops, grilled chicken, baked cod/haddock or simple salads.
