VDP Côtes Catalanes, Languedoc-Roussillon, France
From Alain and Agnes Carrere’s estate, with Domaine Matassa's Tom Lubbe consulting. A 50/50 blend of Carignan and Grenache coming from prized vines as old as 120 years. Hand harvested, natural yeasts with no new oak used.
Intense black fruit flavours weave through great minerality highlighting the fresh cherry and blackberry combo. The tannins are oh so silky and the acidity pops with brightness and energy. As far as price-quality ratio goes, this could be as good as it gets!
Food pairings: meats like bacon, duck, prosciutto and turkey; soft washed rind cheeses like brie; all the mushrooms.
