An old winery established in the 1920s that was abandoned in the 1970s has found a new lease on life thanks to a trio of friends who attended viticultural school together. After graduating, Dani, Maria and Fernando purchased the abandoned winery and set out to work rehabilitating the neglected space. Out in the vineyards, they discovered vines with over 100 years of age. They converted the estate to organic farming practices and take a low intervention approach to the winemaking.
The vines for this particular bottling come from a low-production vineyard located in the influence area of the Desert of Bardenas Reales (the biggest desert in Europe) and in the pre-Pyrenees foothills.
Garnacha and Graciano, coming from vines averaging 25 years of age, are combined to form this juicy, fleshy and satisfying red. Dark cherry, wild overripe raspberry with a hint of blueberry, black pepper and anise in the background. The notes are ripe and rounded but the acidity is lean and the tannins are finely integrated into the wine. It's expressive and fun with a medium-to-full bodied impression.
Beautifully complements any weeknight roasted meat dinner, casserole or stew. Or if you're feeling up to the task, a herbaceous roasted rack of lamb will showcase the wine beautifully.
