Benjamin Taillandier, Bufentis, 2020

Caunes-Minervois, France
AOC Minervois

Starting from nothing, with just his courage and his convictions, Benjamin Taillandier intends to produce “old-fashioned” wines and does not conceive of any other culture than organic (certified AB since the 2011 vintage). His estate now extends over 20 hectares.

A blended cuvée of 50% Syrah and 50% Grenache, from old vines grown organically and planted at 400 metres altitude on schist and clay-limestone soils. Harvesting is done by hand with small crates, controlled yields. The grapes are destemmed then placed in vats for three weeks, soft pressing, followed by a maturation of one year in barrels that have seen several wines. Unfined, unfiltered, little sulphur.

Although Benjamin takes a low-intervention approach to his wines, they retain a very classic style and approachability. Ripe black fruits, cocoa and some spices are delicious on the palate. Despite its power, the wine keeps a beautiful fluidity, a velvety finish, with the richness contrasted by great freshness.

Perfect with pork and grilled vegetables.
