Caunes-Minervois, France
AOC Minervois
A blended cuvée of 70% Cinsault, 15% Syrah and 15% Carignan, from vines grown organically and planted at 400 metres altitude on schist and clay-limestone soils. Although Benjamin takes a low-intervention approach to his wines, they retain a very classic style and approachability. Aged for 6 months in stainless steel, the result is a light-to-medium bodied red that's part fruity and part savoury. Ripe wild raspberries, delectable blackberries, crushed blueberries and jammy strawberry are intertwined with wild Mediterranean garrigue, cracked black pepper and a pleasing dollop of warm spice. The palate is fresh and juicy but met with some weight to create a slightly richer mouthfeel than expected.
Pair with sunshine, bbq and good times! Also, burgers, pizza and cheese are great if you don't have the other 3 on hand.
