Casa Raia, Bevilo Toscana IGT, 2017

Toscana IGT, Italy

Casa Raia sits on a promontory beneath the famed town of Montalcino.  Once belonging to the legendary Biondi-Santi family, Ludmilla bought the estate in 1997 and laid down her Tuscan roots.  She renovated the abandoned farmhouse, replanted olive groves, and rented out the vineyards.  In 2006 her daughter Kayla and husband Pierre Jean decided to move to Casa Raia and take over the vines, invigorating a new life into the vineyards.  They converted them to organic, embraced biodynamic principles and began passionately producing VinNatur, wines that truly express the nature of the land.  In the cellar a hands off approach is taken, their philosophy is "the vine determines the wine."
Tiny in production, Casa Raia has been referred to as “the best Brunello producer you’ve never heard of.”  As word spreads of these artisanal wines so full of soul, one of Montalcino’s best kept secrets will be a secret no longer!
A blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, Bevilo is dark and beautiful.  A true seductress of a wine with aromatics of black plum and cherry, cedar, sweet tobacco and a touch of fresh leather that follow through to the palate.  Full bodied and voluptuous, with firm tannins and bright acidity that yearn for fat so she can truly express herself.  An incredible value for quality that any lover of Super Tuscan reds must try.
