Piemonte, Italy
Coming from a small farm in the Piemonte that has been practicing biodynamic agriculture for over 30 years and who are considered forerunners of the movement in Italy. The winery was started by Stefano Belloti in 1977, when he was just 18 years old. Sadly, Stefano passed in 2018. The domaine is now under the guidance of his daughter Ilaria.
A wicked blend of equal parts Barbera and Dolcetto from prized 60-year-old vines. The grapes in this blend are usually used for two of degli Ulivi's top red labels but in vintages not up to par are reclassified into this delicious, crunchy red. This wine matures for 1 year on its lees in oak barrels and is bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Crunchy blackberries, raisiny plums and tart cherries form the backbone of fruit on this dynamic and boldly flavoured red. Some moderate tannins underpin mild acidity through a very dry finish. This is basically begging to be had with all manner of ragu, lamb chop, roasted game meat and dry aged T-bone.
Only 6,000 bottles produced. Aging potential of 3-5 years.
