Sicily, Italy
Under the guidance of the dynamic Vesco family since the early 2010s viticultural practices have been revolutionised and they've invested heavily in cutting edge technology for the winery and bottling line. Their hundred hectares of organic vineyards are located high up in the hills above Alcamo and the wines are all certified organic and planted on south-east facing slopes on sandy soils 150-300m above sea level. This Catarratto, made from grapes grown in the Sicilian hills to the west of Palermo, is designed to be bursting with character and flavour. It's left to macerate on its skins after pressing which gives an extra dimension and depth to the flavours. It has ripe peachy and tangy pink-grapefruit aromas which contrast nicely with the almost marmalade and spicy ginger notes on the tongue. Altogether tangy and dry it's quite a bold number, but certainly worth taking the time to appreciate.
