Touraine AOC
The Delobel estate was founded by Benjamin Delobel, in 2013, when he returned to the Touraine area of the Loire to work primarily with Sauvignon Blanc. Based in Ouchamps, in the Oisly wine-growing area, Benjamin immediately set to work on organic conversion for his 12ha estate, which breaks down to 10ha of Sauvignon Blanc and 2ha of Gamay and Pineau d'Aunis. His strong agricultural beliefs manifest into 3 fundamental principles: working with nature; preserving the fruit, from vine to bottle; and, conserving and passing on the heritage of the land. These tenets are crucial to Benjamin's production philosophy and are evidenced by the fact that he tends vines for hours on end.
Angle Droit is 100% Sauvignon Blanc from Touraine, coming from 15-25 year old organic vines. Grapes are harvested by hand and aged on fine lees in stainless steel tanks for 3-5 months. Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc is quickly becoming one of our favorite styles of this grape, as it's lush, racy, tense, elegant, fresh and vivid all at the same time. Lemon, grapefruit and lychee are plentiful on the nose and the palate, with their intensely aromatic qualities underpinned by a delicate salinity on the finish. A component of laser-like acidity makes this crisp and fresh but the fine lees aging adds some texture and weight to the wine.
Serve well-chilled and open approximately 15 minutes before consumption.
A great aperitif wine to be enjoyed with asparagus, grilled fish with salsa verde, raw and lightly cooked seafood platters, goat cheese, fried zucchini or a really simple grilled chicken.
