Absolutely rad bottling from Federico, who founded the estate in the 90s and immediately set to work removing the entirety of the old vineyards and replanting with international and indigenous varietals. This sort of risk-it-all reinvention might be why Federico felt so inclined to make a wine in tribute to the iconic David Bowie. Additionally, he collaborates on his labels with a Roman street artist named Diamond, who, in this case, brought to life a label that would be just as home on a re-release of the Aladdin Sane LP.
This vintage of Stardust is a blend of 70% slightly overripe Sauvignon Blanc and 15% each of Trebbiano and Malvasia Puntinata. Winemaking is done in stainless steel with the Sauvignon Blanc vinified separately from the other two varietals, which are picked and vinified nearly a month after. On the nose and palate, you can pick out the crunchy and sweet notes of citrus, curtesy of the Sauvignon Blanc and the ripe, crisp apple and slightly floral notes from the Trebbiano and Malvasia. There's an electric core of acidity here that heightens and livens all the flavours, turning up the dial to 11.
