Herve Villemade, Bovin Gamay 1L, 2020

Loire, France
Vin de France

Right. Let's get to it straight away. You're wondering why your bottle looks like it was delivered to you by rolling it across every road from the winery in France to your doorstep. Well, these liter bottles used to be the norm for local negotiants in the 50's and 60's. Since these aren't produced anymore, Hervé obtains them second-hand which means the bottles might not match, may be discoloured, scratched or all types of banged up. Some of them are actually milk bottles that have been continuously used until they are then up-cycled to the winery for bottling wine. Fun!

Anywho (or any-moooooo?) this Gamay is aged 4 months in concrete tanks, glou-glou style, bottled unfined, unfiltered and without any additional SO2. Aromas of raspberry, blueberry, chocolate and the ubiquitous garrigue. Light tannins, like the kind you get from black teas, complement the black cherry, blueberry, lavender, thyme and modest acidity. There's a little black currant and baking chocolate that just kinda hangout on the palate in between sips.

So good, 750mL just wasn't enough for a single bottle. Lucky us!

We recommend you drink it lightly chilled.

Vachement bon vin!
