Piedmont, Italy
Gavi DOCG
Cortese is, arguably, the Piedmont's best white wine grape. Gavi bottlings, produced from Cortese, were ubiquitous in the 80s and 90s but like other regions that experience outsized demand, the methods used to create the matching supply lead to a dismal downward descent for this great grape. After an extended absence from the limelight, Gavi is once again finding its footing and we are here for it. There's an abundance of orchard fruits with zippy citrus and minerality rounding out this bright, refreshing white. At the finish, there's a gentle note of sea salt and fresh almonds with lively acidity. Goes beautifully with grilled chicken, risotto, lightly fried foods, fresh seafood or meaty white fish. Also fun to try side-by-side with Chablis.
