Touraine AOC, Loire, France

The Loire is one of the great wine regions of the world and one of the most famous of France’s many, many wine-producing regions. The Loire valley is distinguished by vineyards, farmlands, majestic chateaux, gardens and the Loire River, including its tributaries. Domaine Lionel Gosseaume is located in the Touraine AOC of the Loire region, which is known as the “Garden of France”. In 2007, Lionel Gosseaume decided to return to the family tradition of wine-making and started his domaine with 9 hectares of vineyards. Today, he has over 30 hectares planted to the most suitable varietals and produces a wide range of wines. Most notably, Gamay and Sauvignon Blanc have really thrived in his vineyards due to the suitable climate and soils his vineyards offer.
Lionel produces fabulous value Sauvignon Blanc from his Touraine AOC vineyards. Winemaking takes place in stainless steel with a few months of aging on fine lees (spent yeast) which imparts remarkable flavour and depth to these wines.
Strong aromatics jump out of the glass, with smooth citrus fruit, ripe gooseberry and some light herbal touches. There’s a strong acidity component here that makes the wine super refreshing. There’s lovely weight to the wine which is dry, round and supple. We would say this is equivalent to quality Sancerre but at half the price. Absolutely remarkable value, you get a lot of wine for your money with this bottling.
Drink as an aperitif or pair with charcuterie, smoked fish, goat’s cheese, entrée salads with grilled chicken or shrimp, Greek takeout, sushi or fried foods garnished with lemon juice/zest.
