Sighnaghi, Eastern Georgia
Founded in 2004, Okro’s Wines focuses on producing fine natural wine from regional Eastern Georgian grape varieties. All Okro’s wines are made with traditional Georgian techniques, and grapes are harvested organically with no chemical additives. Six Georgian varieties of grapes are grown on Okro’s 5.5-hectare estate: Rkatsiteli, Mtsvane, Saperavi, Budeshuri, Tsolikouri, and Tavkveri.
100% Tsolikouri, from old vines that have never been touched by chemicals. Harvested by hand, of course, with very low yields. Natural and unusual vinification for a white grape variety in Georgia: the bunches are directly pressed, no skin maceration. Here we have a "true" white wine, aged in qvevri.
A surprising nose with notes of yellow apple, kernel almonds, bergamot... Talk about a refreshing cuvée! Palate: beautiful structure, both ample and with tension, beautiful lenght. Perfect first approach to Georgia wine culture.
