Tenuta Olim Bauda, La Villa Barbera d'Asti, 2020

Piemonte, Italy
Barbera d'Asti DOCG

Tenuta Olim Bauda—owned and operated by the three Bertolino siblings, Diana, Dino and Gianni—comprises 33 hectares of vineyards throughout the 5 villages of Nizza Monferrato, Castelnuovo, Calcea, Fontanile and Isola d’Astigiano. The Piedmont is more and more becoming a key region in the international winemaking scene, bridging the long-standing traditions and laws that govern the region with modern winemaking and ideas. The use of oak as a winemaking tool is quickly being dispatched among the younger generation of winemakers, who are hoping to access the fresher, fruit-driven qualities of the grapes they so carefully tend to. In the process, yields are being sacrificed to harvest the highest quality fruit possible. Olim Bauda's Barbera are wines of power and intensity but simultaneously elegant, refined and in balance.

Hand-harvested grapes are fermented and aged in stainless steel and rest for at least 4 months in bottle before release. The results are a youthful, vibrant wine, exploding with generously ripe fruit flavours of blackberry, cherry, ginger and black tea. The palate is refined, but mouth-filling, balanced by ample acidity and soft tannins in the background.

To be served at cellar temperature or with a very light chill. Can be enjoyed with antipasti, burgers, salmon and pastas with simple red sauces.
