Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy
Venezia Giulia IGT
A small estate of 6.5ha in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region of Northeast Italy. The current proprietors, Alessandro and Lavinia, inherited the estate from Alessandro's grandfather and have since worked to cultivate using biodynamic farming practices and minimal intervention winemaking techniques. While winemaking has been a longstanding occurrence in this region, the post-Phylloxera revival didn't happen until the late 80s, early 90s with the return to prominence of Pinot Grigio.
The grapes grown at the Job estate are classics of the region - Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon, Ribolla Gialla and Tocai for whites, Refosco and Schioppettino for reds. That is, in essence, the only sense of classics about this winery who have devoted themselves to natural and minimal intervention winemaking.
Piantagrane, or the Troublemaker, is a Pinot Grigio briefly macerated on the skins, with vinification taking place with indigenous yeasts inside open barrels. The must remains in contact with the skins for at least 3 days producing an intense golden yellow leaning into amber colour. The nose is intense with heavy aromatics of apricot, ripe lemon, ginger, sweet spices, blooming jasmine, light honey and a slightly nutty characteristic. The acidity is like lightning and there's even a light tannin to provide supporting structure to this wine that develops richly in the mouth. There's a lot of substance, energy, freshness, finesse and texture.
Pair with raw seafoods, milder curries, grilled octopus, fried chicken or goat dishes
